Dancer & Choreographer
Gaetano Posterino was born in Italy and is based in Munich, where he works as an independent dance director, choreographer and lecturer. He completed his professional dance training on a scholarship at the renowned National Ballet School of Canada in Toronto.
Following his first engagement with Balletto di Toscana in Florence, he performed as a soloist with numerous renowned companies and institutions throughout Europe, North and South America. His international career has included Ballet L’Ensemble de Micha van Hoecke in Italy, Teatro San Martín in Buenos Aires, San Francisco Ballet, English National Ballet and Birmingham Royal Ballet. He has also worked with Luzerner Ballet, Ventura Dance Company and The Orma Dance Theatre in Switzerland, and was Principal Dancer with Peter Schaufuss Ballet in Denmark. For many years, he was also a Principal Dancer with Hessisches Staatsballett Wiesbaden.
Gaetano Posterino discovered his passion and talent for choreography at an early stage. Since 1995, alongside his career as a dancer, he has developed a diverse international body of choreographic work. His repertoire now comprises more than 70 works, including full-length narrative ballets, dance theatre productions, pas de deux and solos, as well as choreography for opera and film.
For many years, Posterino served as resident choreographer at Hessisches Staatsballett Wiesbaden. He also worked as Artistic Director and Principal Choreographer of Internationales Tanztheater Reutlingen and as resident choreographer of the ballet company at Staatstheater Augsburg.
As a guest choreographer, he has been invited to numerous renowned theatres and companies in Germany and abroad, including Ballet Istanbul, Ballet de Santiago de Chile, Pennsylvania Ballet, Luzerner Ballet, Deutsche Tanzkompanie, Semperoper Dresden, Landestheater Neustrelitz, Teatro Massimo di Palermo, Theater Hagen and Mainfranken-Theater Würzburg.
Since 2002, Gaetano Posterino has also led his own Posterino Dance Company as Artistic Director and Choreographer.

Gaetano Posterino’s choreographic works have been presented at numerous international festivals and renowned gala events, including Aarhus Dance Festival, Bilbao Dance Festival, Lisboa Dance Festival, Marató de l’Espectacle Barcelona, Manifestation d’Art Contemporain Paris, TanzArt Ost West Gießen, Tanzfestival Bielefeld, Internationale Maifestspiele Wiesbaden and Internationales Festival Kultur vom Rande Reutlingen.
His works have also been featured at international galas, including Gala Stars XXI. Century at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, Gala of Stars XXI. Century G.B.C. in Montreal, the Gala at Tanzhaus NRW Düsseldorf and the Gala at Theater Hagen.
In recognition of both his achievements as a dancer and his choreographic work, Gaetano Posterino has received numerous international awards. His artistic work has been supported by public and municipal institutions, companies and foundations, and has received critical acclaim in leading newspapers and international specialist publications.
Art with Social Responsibility
Alongside his artistic work, Gaetano Posterino is committed to social and inclusive projects. Through his art, he supports fundraising initiatives and advocates for the active participation of people with intellectual disabilities or physical impairments in artistic processes. His inclusive performances create opportunities for encounters and enable dance to be experienced as a form of artistic expression accessible to everyone.
Supporting the next generation of dancers is another particular focus of his work. Posterino is involved in choreographic development projects and competitions and provides young dancers with opportunities to gain valuable stage experience and to participate in productions by his company.

Gaetano Posterino has developed a distinctive choreographic signature that combines aesthetic precision with expressive power. His versatile style follows an interdisciplinary “360° compass”, bringing together diverse artistic forms of expression with historical and cultural influences that he has shaped over many years into a unique choreographic language.
In his work, highly agile dance theatre meets a contemporary and intensely expressive movement language. Posterino’s choreographies move between avant-garde and experimentation, combining fluid contemporary movement vocabulary with intensive floorwork, the illusion of defying gravity, and elements of spoken theatre, vocal performance and dance theatre. Almost acrobatic sequences encounter unexpected and playful moments of humour.
Through this multifaceted approach, Posterino offers audiences a direct and immersive experience of contemporary dance theatre – its forms, perspectives and themes. His works challenge established ways of seeing, open up new spaces of perception, and unite physical virtuosity with emotional and intellectual depth.
At the heart of his work lies an introspective and reflective exploration of movement. Posterino questions established forms of expression and transforms them into a contemporary choreographic vocabulary that opens up new possibilities for dance. His movement language can be fluid or fragmented, delicate or powerful, poetic or raw – and it is precisely this diversity that gives his work its unmistakable identity.
